U S Population Rises 29 592 From Immigrant Inflow
In May 1927 the United States gained 29 592 people due to more admissions than departures. Aliens admitted totaled 62 718 while 25 126 left. Mexico led with 4 806 new arrivals, Canada 6 258, Germany 4 934. Italians topped the immigrant list with 1 041, Germans 1 014 returned home. Debarments reached 1 708 with 1 291 at the Canadian border and 190 at Mexico. Visas missing was the main debarment cause. eleven countries exhausted quotas.
