Policeman’s Idea Adopted Youth Corps In New York
In East Harlem patrolman Winston Williams created a youth corps to assist fire and police work after a five day orientation. About 40 youths aged 14 to 18 will work 30 hours weekly earning 1.50 per hour. Sandra Samaniego of Hunter College supervises and the program aims to educate the public about police fire and narcotics units while improving community relations. The effort is backed by Hell Gate subcommittee and the Neighborhood Youth Corps in a predominantly Black and Puerto Rican area with many bilingual youths.

In Brooklyn, bands of men attacked 18 licensed taxicabs in Bedford-Stuyvesant and Brownsville during a six hour period. Seven cabs were set afire, drivers forced out, some wrecked or overturned. Man Drowns In State Park At Pinchot
A 26 year old York man named George Dickerson drowned Monday evening while swimming at Pinchot State Park near Harrisburg. He and friends were in a designated off limits area and his body was recovered by a park lifeguard before being pronounced dead by York County Coroner H Malcolm Read.
