Two years ago Goddard was Chaplin’s leading lady in Modern Times.

In Mt Pleasant area a 20 year old newlywed Mrs Evelyn Shaffer Kalp died as flames swept the Altice home. Her husband Samuel Kalp and her parents Josiah and Ahab Shaffer were involved. Josiah and Mrs Shaffer were injured and in hospital with severe burns and a broken jaw respectively. Fire officials say the blaze began during a kerosene stove attempt by Josiah Shaffer.
An NLRB examiner urged the board to require Ford Motor Company to bargain collectively with the United Auto Workers at the St. Louis assembly plant. He also proposed reinstating 192 workers fired or denied reemployment for union activity and a November strike. The report gives Ford 10 days to comply and notes possible court enforcement if needed.
Somerset County and 20 other counties will continue paying medical relief for indigents while awaiting state court clarification. Two young bandits entered a Sharon drug store threatening proprietor Julian F. Nickum and clerk Virginia Henry with pistols.
