Washington lawmakers press an economy drive to liquidate surplus government assets and cut costs. Budget director Dawes orders surveys to list sellable materials from Maine to California while Mellon backs cuts to soldiers bonuses and the Navy and Shipping Board plan sales of fleets. Ex servicemen report poor hospital care fueling Senate hearings as defense spending faces drastic reductions.
Reported by the Tunxsulawney Bypless the council plans action against fireworks sales and displays. Baro Solicitor Adama and Baroness Tre jynone will draft a new ordinance to curb inflammable materials and dangerous explosives, including firecrackers, and to raise age restrictions for sale.
Reports say Leon Trotsky, Soviet war minister, has been jailed by Nikolai Lenin following the Congress of the Third International in Moscow. The gathering drew over 2,000 delegates from around the world and discussed a rumored compromise giving Trotsky broad powers in directing the International's governance.
Edith W. Kerr and Chester Holmes Welch were married by Rev. Oliver F. Crawford at Christ Episcopal church home of Daniel D. Kerr on Chestnut street. The ceremony occurred at 1 PM with relatives present, the bride wore white satin, and a corsage bouquet. They planned a short trip then residence at 807 Chestnut Street.
The Greensburg subdistrict comprising Bell Telephone Co. officials from Johnstown Dubois Punxsutawney Luciana and nearby towns will hold its annual picnic at Idlewild Park on July 16. Preparations have been made to ensure good food and a hearty meal for all attendees.
Camp Taylor opens on July 6 1921 with a small but quality camp. The day went off well and the organizers feel confident this will be the best scout camp the boys have attended, promising good experiences in camping and education.
A game of unusual interest will be played at Idamar tomorrow afternoon at 4 o clock between the Idamar and Dixonville teams and the Altoona Colored Giants. A large audience of spectators is expected.

Yet elderberry wine production remains steady as city winemakers harvest elder blossoms amid drought. Farmers fear further elderberry shortages due to prohibition and crop drops, while strawberries and raspberries also suffer.
Baltimore July 7 A report from Captain Giles of the steamship Mulalbro Munson line says he sighted a mysterious craft Thursday morning June 30 about 800 miles east of Philadelphia. The vessel, possibly the rover linked to disappearances of American ships, showed unusual speed and vanished in under a minute after closely approaching the Mulalbro which was sailing from Boston to Baltimore in ballast.
D F and J Cloid Rinard of West Philadelphia street traveled by auto to North Freedon Armstrong county to attend the funeral of Jessie Rinard who died on July fourth from hardening of the arteries at age 73. He was a farmer and stock evaluator who retired to a quiet life. He married Catherine Freas and had two children who died in infancy. Mrs Rinard, sister of Mrs D P Rin, survives along with Mrs Rinard who could not attend due to illness.
The home of Mrs Amanda Kirkpatrick in Plumville was the scene of a quiet home wedding. Miss Emma Kirkpatrick became the bride of Fred N Thompson of White Cottage Ohio. The attendants were the Rev Raymond Hart and Miss Faye McQuown.
Mrs. Nora Patton Miss Nora Hamilton and William Simpson Jr return home after three weeks on a night seeing trip and vacation at Yellowstone National Park. Craig Rio and Co. advertises coal prices and a price on air one governed.
About 100000 customers of United Company will receive excess money paid since November 1920. The rebate covers a fifteen percent return to consumers of the gas product.
Pending final approval from the Public Service Commission of Pennsylvania more than 100000 natural gas consumers in several cities will receive a voluntary 16 percent rebate totaling over 300000 dollars from November 1920 through July 1921. The flat rate of 50 cents per thousand cubic feet replaces the 65 cent rate set last November. The agreement, reached by company and city solicitors, could affect Pennsylvania Gas Co. rates in Erie Corry Warren. Iroquois Gas Co. reps from New York attended, Buffalo uses a sliding scale of 88 48 and 53 cents. Continued on page 2 column 6.
Archibald A. Long and Sadie B. Neff of Altoona wed quietly at the Methodist Episcopal patronage at nine o clock with Rev Dr Elliott White performing a ring ceremony. Attendants were Mr and Mrs T S Lewis of West Church Street. The couple has many well wishers. Also Charles W. Lucas and Anna N. Neal of North Point were married at the Swank home on Philadelphia site with Rev Dr J S White officiating.
Indiana fans watch the Indiana Elco matchup as Elco defeats Punxsutawney 12 to 1 on the Normal diamond. The Independents are slated to face Rennkvilla and Nemacolin this weekend starting at 4 pm, with next games lined up similarly. Also note coal and delivery price details for local suppliers.
John Dickson a 12 year old Glen Campbell resident is in Punxsutawney hospital paralyzed throat due to a tonsil operation. After tonsil removal he contracted diphtheria necessitating nasal feeding. Doctors say there is no hope of recovery.
Public Service Commission plans a hearing in Harrisburg to discuss revised plans by the State Highway Department to abolish grade crossings where Route 68 crosses the Pennsylvania Railroad and Indiana County Street Railways tracks near Graceton and Coral station. The hearing will cover cost apportionment and damages to adjacent property, not private property damages. Copies of the plans are on file in Indiana County and Harrisburg offices and available for inspection after Friday July 8. Interested parties may appear or be represented by counsel.
The Pennsylvania Cool and Coke Corporation announces a broad revision and wage cut averaging about 20 percent for all officers, superintendents, foremen, monthly men, clerks, and stenographers across operating departments and offices in New York. The company operates nine of its thirty four mines, working one to four days a week due to inability to meet competition on the 1917 wage scale.
After a two year illness Miss Margaret McMillen aged 28 died at home in Plumville on Saturday. She leaves her parents Mr and Mrs William McMillen and six brothers who served as pallbearers. Funeral by Rev W E Copeland Tuesday afternoon with burial at Glade Run Cemetery.
Mrs. Laura Murphy of Garner Kansas has stayed with H. M. Hudson on Maple street and friends nearby for several weeks. She departs today to visit relatives in Livermore New Jersey New York and Niagara Falls before returning home.
John Cochiteky, a Coral mines workman aged 94, died last night at 10 45 in Indavian Hoss hospital from injuries suffered in an automobile accident. He was a native of Austria who came to the country in recent years. Interment will be in the Coral cemetery Saturday afternoon.
Miss Arvilla Snyder of Indiana attends the sixth annual World Meeting in New York City as one of about 15000 delegates. The convention gathers leaders and members from many regions to discuss global issues and future plans.
Miss Alvilla Snyder attended the opening session of the sixth World Christian Endeavor convention in the Seventy-first Regiment armory. About 15,000 attendees represented 4,000,000 members, with delegates from Canada, Japan, China, Australia, India, Armenia, Persia, Egypt, South America, and Mexico among others. Rev Francis Ton opened with a call for a global Christian campaign, while Roger Babson spoke on Christian Endeavor business noting current economic malaise tied to secular living.
The Outing Club social committee hosts a monthly dance for members and guests with Keystone Pop Orchestra providing music from 9 pm to 1 am and refreshments served throughout the evening. The second series of dances under the Sycamores at Campbell's Mill is planned for Tuesday July 12, inviting all, following a successful first event.

Johnstown couple W eR Gateg and Misa Work, both well known in Johnstown, were united in the morning by Rev. J. M. Gearhart, pastor of Zion Church, at his residence on Sixth Street. After a short automobile tour to Pittsburg they planned to make their home in Johns.
