Two Fourth of July Fires Leave 26 Homeless in Indiana County
Two near simultaneous fires in Cherry Tree and Heilwood area left 26 people homeless. No injuries reported. Homes of the Keith family in Cherry Tree and the Fairbanks family near Heilwood were destroyed. Red Cross provided emergency aid. The Keiths had 14 children and were away during the blaze. the Fairbanks eight children ranged from 1 to 17 years old. The Keiths' stay with relatives pending assistance.

Police Seek Five Assailants After July Fourth Picnic Attack
State Police say five assailants attacked a group at a July 4 picnic at Cummings Dam in Rayne Township near here. Thelma Winifred Shull, 21, Black Lick, was hospitalized overnight at Indiana Hospital with aggravated assault and battery. William Paul Marsh, 18, Black Lick, and Gary Dalton Davis, 21, Blairsville, were treated and released. Shelly K. Shull, 19, Black Lick, and Janet Lee Debnar, 16, Derry Township, were not injured.
