Coleman earned the award for over 40 straight takeoffs in the XFY1 Pogo and a historic vertical takeoff to level flight landing. Eppes set a world record by keeping a Goodyear ZPG2 aloft for eight days and flying 8,000 miles in a simulated anti submarine patrol in May 1954.
