McClellandtown, Pa. July A- CIS- Free Methodist congregation near completion of a new church with total labor cost of 11 dollars. Volunteers supplied 6,764 hours of work starting in April 1932 plus transportation costs for materials. Rev H W Van Vallin led as architect and tradesman in the project destined for Sunday dedication.
Detroit ends: Merton W. Goodrich the so called mad musician and his red haired wife face charges of complicity in the killing of 11 year old Lillian Gallaher. New York detectives pursue a dairy recording his psychopathic attacks on several children.
TeRoy Muir addressed a large Taylorsville audience at Harkins Grove denouncing The New Deal and warning that American liberties are threatened. The revival begins Sunday at 9 30 and runs eight nights with speeches on Communism in the Churches and political themes, featuring patriotic songs by local entertainers and a broad invitation to participate.
Sharon July 5. State Highway Patrolman T. C. Swarts was hurled into a field from his overturned motorcycle when dust clouds from an automobile pulled to the side blocked his vision. He was recovering from back and leg injuries while directing unusually heavy holiday traffic.
Theodore B. Rucholz known as Book ie and editor of The Rug er after, promotes Griptive a liquid backing for rugs that forms an invisible film to prevent slipping and extend rug life. He touts Klenzo a quick cleaner revived by the Philadelphia Inquirer story, claiming no harm to fabrics and fast drying for immediate reuse.
About 3900 Washington county fishermen protested Consolidated Can Company in Canonsburg after the firm diverted sulphur water from a Buffalo mine into Little Chartier Creek killing thousands of bass. State sanitary board and Ash commission consider prosecution. fishermen report bass up to 18 inches found belly-up along a 10 mile stretch. Kenneth A. President Roosevelt signs the Wagner Act creating the National Labor Relations Board as an independent quasi judicial body. Mediation remains the secretary of labor and the employment service's duty, while the board handles rights enforcement. Francis Biddle resigns as chair, and Senator Wagner may become first chair if he accepts.
Three drivers died during July 4 dirt track events at Hatfield and Pottsville with witnesses among thousands. Robert Nelson of Maple Shade N J and Ned Wine of Baltimore Md died at Hatfield Montgomery County Fair track, Allen Skwarte of Melrose was injured, Wayne Shollenberg of Palmerton Pa was killed at Pottsville. The Hatfield track, a dangerous half mile used for horse racing, saw Nelson killed as Skwarte injured when their cars collided in a red blue No 13 machine run by Bill Neiman of Allentown who won top prize when officials halted the meet. A separate crash at Sharon Speedway marred racing with Windy Jennings Detroit winning a 20 mile event and Shorty Christianson Cleveland injured. The Clarion 100 mile race was won by J A Berry Akron.
The sixth annual Peale reunion at Peale drew about 1800 residents and friends, with attendees from multiple states. Victor Frendberg chaired ceremonies while Rev. Nevin Korb and former pupils recalled Peale’s history, and a large picture bill board sparked reminiscences as guests registered and departed hopeful for a bigger event next year.
I Israel, 27, of Leechburg pleaded guilty this morning to operating a motor vehicle under the influence of liquor before Justice Waiter H Jackson and was jailed in default of $500 bail. Thirty one bills were before the House Ways and Means Committee including four to restrict federal relief funds for political uses. Long claimed the bills aim to curb opponents and strengthen his dictatorship in Louisiana. He wired President Roosevelt urging favorable action. An array of bills sought to curb Mayor Walmsleys authority in New Orleans, though no move to remove him occurred.
A Fourth of July summary reports three dirt track racers killed at Hatfield, two men drowned near Williamstown, and several other fatalities including a man struck in Philadelphia and a plane crash in Lancaster. Fireworks incidents injured many, with 37 hospitalized in Harrisburg and various accidents across multiple towns.
In a Detroit case, William Schweitzer and Florence and Loretta Jackson pled not guilty to first degree murder charges in the death of attorney Dickinson. In Aliquippa on July 5, police arrested Agnes Davis Mitchell, 30, common-law wife of Steve Mitchell, 35, after he was found with stab wounds and died of internal hemorrhage. She admitted stabbing him during a quarrel and did not call for help.
In Tacoma on July 5 jury selection from a pool of 62 began for the trial of Margaret Waley aged 18 on charges of complicity in the George Weyerhaeuser kidnapping.
