A local report notes post holiday firecrackers and fireworks still on shelves and promoted at half price. Despite late night disturbances in East End, intermittent rain did not curb patriotic fervor as cannons and bombs exploded through the night. Minor injuries attributed to hoodlums who threw crackers at pedestrians and cars.
The Fourth of July celebrations caused nearly 150 deaths nationwide from drowning heat and fireworks. Four deaths occurred in New England with the hottest areas reporting many drownings at sea resorts and waters. Firework related fatalities reached at least fifteen as the holiday spanned the nation.
Fire at the Cameo Theater caused extensive damage estimated over 100000 dollars. Nine firefighters were injured as flames swept the building to its four remaining walls and debris. Origin of the fire remains unknown.
Mrs H W Stephens will open a Ladies Exchange in a room at the Moore Hotel on North Eighth Street this Saturday. An unidentified man about 55, possibly Nick Janoski, was instantly killed when struck by a freight train on the B R P railroad between Coal Run and McIntyre at about two in the afternoon. The mangled body was taken to Streams undertaking rooms for identification.
Announced engagement plans honor Miss Abigail Alden Guthrie daughter of Spdér Wallace Guthrie of Church Street to Robert W Smith Jr son of Mr and Mrs R W Smith of Greensburg. The couple’s dinner and dance were held at the Indiana Country Club last evening. Mr Smith is a Dartmouth and Pittsburgh Law School graduate class of 1928. Wedding date not yet set. Also notices marriage of Nellie Jane Coffman niece of the Misses Coffman.
Bids will be asked before September first for widening Seventh street from Philadelphia street to the Point. Work begins after Fair Week and aims to finish before winter. The plan sets widths of fifty feet between Philadelphia and Church, forty feet between Church and School, and thirty feet along the rest toward Wayne avenue. The Indiana approach of the Buffalo Pittsburgh Highway will see increased traffic and parking space. Bids will also be opened tomorrow for the Oak and Fifth streets to Monkey College section project.
The Mothers of Democracy invite old soldiers and their wives to a Memorial Hall picnic on Friday July 13. The event aims to honor veterans with a community gathering and refreshments.

Loewenstein’s holdings spanned steamships, railroads, mining, steel furnaces in Spain, and rubber tracts in the Congo.
Berlin reports a German survey shows 3000 persons 24 airplanes 20 ships active in locating the missing Nobile expedition and the Amundsen party. Eleven dogs assist along the coast and ice fields. Eight nations are involved in the search.
Miss Jean Cupples 18 of Altoona Pa owes her life to Franklin Young, a commercial aviator, after a seaplane rescued her from drowning when a boat swamped off Santa Catalina Island. Young diverted from his regular route to pluck the exhausted swimmer from the water. her two companions were saved by speed boats.
Pittsburgh July 5. About 1500 workers at the Pittsburgh Terminal Coal Company face wage cuts effective July 1. Leaders drop from 64 to 8 cents per ton and machine cutters from 12 to 1L cents. Horace F. Baker, president, says the move is unrelated to Frick Coke actions. Philip Murray of the UMWA notes this is the fourth reduction since severing ties with the union.
J. S. Neely of Kittanning will speak at the Merchants' Auxiliary of the Indiana Chamber of Commerce gathering in the Rest Room this evening at 7 o'clock. He will discuss Credit and the Garnishee Law. Other Kittanning businessmen will attend. Members and others interested are invited.
John Singleton president of the Baptist Young People's Union addressed a Kansas City convention stating the church does not lose youth because it uses them. He urged churches to give young members responsibilities and active roles to attract the younger generation, noting the union's wide reach across the United States Canada and Mexico.
London reports no confirmation yet that the English yacht Albion rescued Captain Roald Amundsen and five companions who left Tromsoe on June 18 in a French seaplane seeking the Nobile party. Weather improves and a Swedish three-plane relief mission now proceeds while the Soviet ice-breaker Krassin, heading to the floe camp, is again held up by massive ice.
More than 1600 Klan members and guests attended a rally at the Klan farm two miles south of town yesterday. Despite rain cutting the afternoon, attendees enjoyed a noted Indian speaker, an ox roast, and fireworks. John Henry Mears and Captain Collyer completed their New York to round the world voyage plan by arriving aboard the liner Olympic at Cherbourg at 11 30 am. Their plane was moved to Queville air field and they departed for Paris at 2 pm with their white Fox Terrier mascot Talwind. Mears said the dog will help keep them on schedule as they head to Berlin and Warsaw after Paris.

A vacant house owned by Fred Bertorella on Water Street North Homer was leveled by a blaze at 10 o clock last night. The origin of the fire remains unknown and damage is estimated at 38509 dollars with insurance on the building.
Mrs Fanny Garrison Villard, mother of Oswald and Harold Villard, noted magazine editors, died today at her Dobbs Ferry home. Born in 1844 in Boston, she was long active in abolition and magazine publishing, aiding her father William Lloyd Garrison with The Liberator in her early years.

Yatesboro entered the game shorthanded with five regulars missing and a heavy weekly schedule. Nu Mine overwhelmed Yatesboro 14 to 0 Tuesday evening at NuMine, though observers called it a good game. The Bush-Roush Reunion is set for Community Park in Marion Center on Wednesday, July, with attendees encouraged to bring a basket of provisions.
County Detective Harry Koozer said he was not shot during a Hillsdale liquor raid. the incident involved a cow and stemmed from a mistaken identity after he was called to investigate a bovine shooting.
Albert Lussier a 34 year old Springfield Mass native and Canadian by birth became the third person to survive a fall over Niagara Falls. He rode in a large red rubber ball lowered from a boat into the upper river instead of a planned plane drop. A fire in an unoccupied storeroom cell on the second floor of Chester County jail choked twenty prisoners and required rapid evacuation. Seventy inmates remained in custody as residents gathered, fearing a jailbreak. fire damage was limited to a brick structure.
