Gléeh Wells, an employee of the Ritz Theatre, was robbed by masked men Saturday night as he carried receipts to the Indiana Theatre. They forced him into a dark hallway, raped him, tied his hands and ankles, then escaped via the back stairs. Continues on page two.
Mrs Adda McFeaters 47 of Johnstown died at Memorial Hospital after a Saturday night head on collision on the Armagh Johnstown road. Bert Foreman 47 of Conemaugh is in a critical condition with facial lacerations brain concussion and possible fractures. Coroner Cyrus W Davis will investigate conflicting accounts as state patrol reports differ about Vance of Johnstown. A Memorial Day note mentions July 4 festivities with games and a square dance at Ernest.
UNIONTOWN July 3 Renewed prosperity reaches Fayette and adjoining counties as nearly 10 000 coal and coke workers gain wage increases from 10 to 206 percent in effect since Saturday. H O Frick Coke Company plants and independent operators raise rates and extend hours with five day weeks in Frick operations and six day weeks in other mines. coke region shifts to weight based wages for the first time.
Edward Young, beloved son of prominent local resident, passed away yesterday at an Indiana hospital after a two week illness. He was well known in the community for his friendliness and involvement with youth programs. Funeral arrangements are pending with the local mortuary.
William Edgar Young Jr aged 20 of 125 North Tenth Street died at Indiana Hospital from complications. Born April 2, 1913 in Indiana, he attended public schools and Indiana High School class of 1992, was active in Zion Lutheran Church and Sunday School. Survived by parents and four sisters and two brothers. Funeral at Zion Lutheran Church with interment in Oakland Cemetery. Also James W. Smith, age 2? years, longtime Marion Center resident, died after injuries from a horse kick and a broken leg. Survived by wife Dora and two sons, viewed at Thomas Funeral Home before burial arrangements continued.
The Homer City Volunteer Fire Company hosts a four night fair in the West Lot opposite the fire hall. Activities include dancing, concerts by the fire company band, and a parade of fire companies from nearby towns on Thursday. A large electric refrigerator is to be awarded Saturday night.

Bellefonte July 3 State Police pursued James Meerham a Rockview Penitentiary inmate after an escape during a rain storm as guards and prisoners sheltered. In Prestonburg Kentucky a gun battle over a school trustee election left five dead and one critically wounded. Victims include Wilburn Conn 88 Wayne Click 40 Mims Conn 43 Millard Conn 21 and Green Conn 62 father of Wilburn Conn. Lawrence Conn 23 was wounded. The confrontation reduced local turnout at Prater Crack fourteen miles from town.

Sandusky July 1. Attempts to rescue a party of tourists stranded on a jetty in Lake Erie during a windstorm were renewed today after the group huddled overnight on the wave whipped pier. Twelve people were believed marooned and in constant danger of being swept into the lake as high waves battered the shore.

Toy H Carlyle Carson of the United Presbyterian Church of Piqua Ohio attended the 75th anniversary in Pittsburgh last week and visited the east with his daughter Catharine Ann and Attorney Robert M Carson and family. They were at home Sabbath with his parents Mr and Mrs Harry Carson of White Township. Mrs Carson is improving after a stroke suffered last February.
