Monthly Meet of Boro Council in Indiana Borough
The regular monthly meeting of Indiana Borough Council was held in the Municipal building with seven councilmen present. The Penzell Company won approval to build a modern gasoline station and equipment on a lot at Philadelphia and Fourth streets, subject to regulatory supervision. The Chandler Agency gained permission to install another gasoline pump in front of its Church street location near the P R R. Citizens requested sidewalks on the north side of Chestnut street between Third and Fourth, which were ordered down, and water holes in front of several properties were referred to the Street Commissioner. An ordinance was read for a new 18 inch main sewer from Church to Jak streets.

Fatal injury for Jas Rogers at Conemaugh Iron Works
James Rogers a 40 year old Blacklick man and employee of the Conemaugh Iron Works died at Indiana Hospital from injuries after being knocked into the slag dump when a wagon left rails and toppled over the embankment. Three coworkers escaped unharmed. Rogers was found and treated in the emergency room before his death. His body was moved to Ferguson undertaking.

A New Arrival Ezekiel Levin Wins State Scholarship
Ezekiel Levin of Clymer High School has been awarded the State Beholepsto scholarship in Indiana County by the Department of Public Instruction at Harrisburg. He will attend Carnegie Institute of Technology to study architecture. This marks the second consecutive year a Clymer pupil receives the award, following Earl Mitchell of last year. The 1919 Legislature created the scholarships to aid secondary graduates, with each worth 400 dollars toward a four year college program.

Indiana Dance Marathon Closed by Blue Law Raid

French Balloon Ace Race Winner in 475 Mile Flight
Detroit July 3 INS The French balloon Blanchard with Charles Dollfus as pilot and George Cornier as aide wins this year’s Gordon Bennett race. It landed at Walnut Cove North Carolina about 475 airline miles from Detroit, a distance 15 miles farther than the army balloon flown by Capt Kepnner. Woman Burned by Explosion in Blairsville Home
Mrs. Lucy Fortunato aged 29 was seriously burned when gasoline used to clean clothes ignited in the Fortunato residence at 190 Morewood avenue. She ran upstairs and wrapped herself in bedclothes to smother the flames. Neighbors sent a fire alarm, a physician was summoned, and firefighters put out the blaze with chemicals.

Two Men Sentenced in Railroad Destruction Case
Edward McCann and Robert Lourri of Clymer pleaded guilty to malicious injury to railroad property and were sentenced by Judge J. N. Langham to $100 fines and three months in county jail. The defendants aided John Smith, former UMWA president, in dynamiting NY Central tracks near Sample Run on April 1, with 50 sticks used to wreck two track spans. Detectives from New York Central Railroad traced the crime, leading to arrests and pledges to Patton last August.

On a Saturday in June the Indiana Racing Pigeon Fanciers staged the season’s longest race from St Louis covering 602 miles with 17 entries. Tone Eagle led with 787.771 yards per minute, followed by King Splash and Old Smoke. Sam Bullock earned best average speed across six races from 76 to 60 miles. the club scheduled the first young bird race from Steubenville starting September 5.
