Valley Forge Crowded With Scouts and Visitors
Valley Forge Pa July 1 crowds gathered on historic grounds for a mass Scout rally. President Truman spoke to about 70,000 Scouts and 20,000 leaders while 20,000 more arrived first. Robert Earl Howard a 24 year old Brookville trainman was killed in a Pittsburgh and Shawmut Railroad crossing crash near Timblin Jefferson County while standing on the engine steps as it backed. Fellow worker Henry Jay Osborne aged 47 was injured with a compound leg fracture when a Timblin truck allegedly overlapped the crossing. Howard died en route to Brookville Hospital after the engine passed over him.
