Dutt Penn State extension vegetable specialist. Dutt discussed commercial production and noted Pennsylvania ranked second in U S canning crops last year and that quality will be crucial for marketing success. He covered cultural practices fertilization and soil prep with color slides. A. H. Bauer extension plant pathologist explained the late blight of tomato situation noting 1948 was the worst year since 1917 and that blight can spread from potatoes to tomatoes. He urged growers to be ready to spray this year. Heinz Company field men Herman Herrmann and Sokash spoke on plans to supply plants to tomato growers and supervision of southern growers.
