Chinese name appears on diploma at Pennsylvania State midyear
At the midyear commencement on January 81st, William Tier Hwo of Foochow China became the first graduate to have his Chinese name inscribed on his diploma after the English name. The diploma was prepared with the Chinese characters first written by Ho then copied by assistant registrar W. S. Hoffiman. Sixty-six seniors earned diplomas, many veterans of World War I. Dr. William D. Lewis spoke, and Dr. John M. Thomas gave the Baccalaureate address. The college now lists 36 foreign-born students, with Russia the most represented.
