Torso Slaying: Detroit Man Sentenced to Long Term
Larry Treakt, 54, a part time butcher and Tunisian native, was sentenced to 12 to 15 years for the manslaughter of his wife Ivy Dean. The judge said he showed sadistic tendencies and utter disregard for the law as a jury found him guilty after the August incident. The body was discarded along Detroit's Third Avenue after the killing.

Mother finds released yet not her son
A Michigan mother, Mrs. Stoltz of Saginaw, believed she had found her son Vernon Stolz in a released World War II prisoner photo. Jere Baker, a 23 year old ex air force sergeant, told her he was not her son and recalled life after Ofuna prison camp. Red Cross and military officials confirmed Stolz was officially killed in action at New Caledonia on August 28.
