Harrisburg Jan 10 A joint committee of educators examined GI education at Pennsylvania State Teacher Colleges to relieve Penn State overcrowding. The group, led by Dr. Haas and Dr. Hetzel, considers moving veterans into teachers colleges then finishing at Penn State when space improves. The list of colleges and capacities is reviewed with goals to create branches of Penn State.
Washington Jan 30 Representative Clare Boothe Luce a Republican from Connecticut said she will not run for reelection to the House next fall She did not reveal future plans though speculation linked her to a Senate bid Luce, wife of Henry R Luce publisher of Life Time and Fortune magazines, was elected in 1942 from Connecticut’s Fourth District Senator Hart has said he will not seek the seat filled after Maloney’s death Luce has been mentioned as a possible candidate for the vacant Senate seat
Iran presses for intervention as the UNO advances its organization issues. Trygve Lie is nominated as secretary general by the United States with a formality expected in a final Assembly vote. The UN and League of Nations weigh site options for a future headquarters in the United States and transfer of assets to the World Organization by August 1, 1948.
Diary extracts reveal Winston Churchill threatened to resign over Ike’s South France invasion plan. He urged shifting landings from Toulon area to Brest Lorient and St Nazaire while criticizing Allied strategy. By August 15 he relented after observing the Southern France landings and sent a glowing message.

Trainer of Indiana, and John M Bergman of Blairsville with various ranks and home addresses listed.
Sixteen Indiana County FFA members attended the State Future Farmer of America Convention in Harrisburg January 23 24. State project winners include William Campbell Armagh East Wheatfield Wallace Pollock Marion Center Clair Henneman Cherryhill Sam Mack Armagh H G Overdorff Brush Valley Alfred Benedick Brush Valley Harry Reed Cherryhill Two Clayton Wineback Marion Center. Three Armagh East Wheatfield High School members led by Agricultural Supervisor G R Oellig earned Keystone Farmers degrees. Delegates from the county included Rodger Brehm with eleven Arm strong members under supervisors Oellig Steffy Shirey King and county adviser A B Young.

Springfield police man Silas L. Myers waited two hours in Sangamon County clerk's office to secure the last spot on the Republican sheriff ticket. Five minutes before filing deadline Carroll F. Jones dashed in with his petition. Clerk M. B. Woebaker settled the outcome by flipping a coin, and Jones won.
Secretary Byrnes said the War Department will extend Army administration in the American Zone beyond the June 1 deadline.
