Clark Detwiler of Tacoma Washington visited his mother on Hast Church Street. he is general manager of the National Gas Register offices in Tacoma.

A twelve man crew ashore at Atyst in the Paumotu group raids King John’s island, seizes the brig Wanderer and sails away. The captain threatens, natives capture some crew, rum-drinking delays the pursuit, and after a tense night the brig returns to sea. King John chooses copra payment over captivity, and the crew resumes trading as the incident fades.
