Hog Island Fire Destroys Lumber Yard in Philadelphia
A spectacular blaze at Hog Island Lumber Co. yard in Southwest Philadelphia forced evacuation of one family and threatened nearby homes as firefighters feared a wind shift. Patrolmen Marsh and Hebelmn spotted the fire and sounded the alarm, with three additional alerts bringing most of South Philadelphia fire equipment to the scene. The flames were seen four miles away, even in parts of Southern New Jersey across the Delaware River.
