Tom Cat Saved By Fish Decoy
In Talladega Alabama a black tom cat named Nig stranded a week atop an oak tree was rescued by fireman Ed Miller using a fish decoy. Nig belongs to Miss Daisy McKinnon a school teacher. Miller dangled the fish to lure the cat down from the ladder bringing it safely to ground.

Dr. Julia Morgan, 57, professor of tropical medicine and physical diagnosis at the University of Pennsylvania Medical School, died after a brief illness at University Hospital. Born in Carlisle, she was survived by brother Hugh C. Morgan of West Grove and sister Mrs. Russell Meel-Fish of Pittsburgh.

Harrisburg report from January 28 1948 warns of fewer livestock on Pennsylvania farms. Cattle slaughter in the first nine months of 1947 fell 14 percent from 1946, with sheep and lambs down 149 percent and hogs slaughtered down 14 percent. Farmers struggle to grow feed and rely on imports, shifting toward dairy and milk production. Cash farm marketings for January–November 1947 are estimated at 7038.864 million, about 114 million higher than 1946. Wages for farm workers reached record highs with average monthly pay around 115 and daily rates 570 without board and 465 with board.
