Dr Newton M. McClain of Bolivar and Alice Harvey a Johnstown nurse married secretly in Baltimore on January 3. They traveled via Philadelphia and eastern cities before returning to Bolivar to begin married life. McClain, a 1904 Medico-Chirurgical graduate, has built a strong Bolivar practice.
The Indiana lodge of Elks hosted a highly successful social affair directed by its Social Committee on Wednesday night. About 150 attendees enjoyed diverse entertainment with 600 card games and dancing to a fine orchestra, followed by an elaborate lunch. The event reflected credit on the organizing committee.
Thomas Craig, a longtime Rossiter resident and miner, died Tuesday morning of pneumonia at 59. He leaves a wife and eight adult children. Funeral services were held at 9:80 in the Rossiter Catholic Church with burial in the West End Catholic Cemetery.
Mrs. Samuel Myers died Wednesday at her son Gus Pease's home. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 Friday afternoon at Greenwood Cemetery with out-of-town attendees including Mr. and Mrs. Sumner Graff and Mr. and Mrs. John Geary of Blacklick, and Houston Geary of New Florence.
In Homer City the Sewing Circle held its regular monthly entertainment at the home of C. B. Steele. Mrs Ed Nix Miss Gertrude Tuck and Miss Martha Waller played piano selections. Ed Nix sang Peter Pumpkin Eater and won first prize in another contest while Dr Weamer received booby prize. The organizing committee was commended for the evening’s success.
Roy Carnahan aged 26 a well known New Kensington young businessman and popular figure in the boroughs younger set committed suicide Tuesday night by drinking carbolic acid at his parents home Mr and Mrs John Carnahan. He had been driven to distraction by business troubles and had moved to New Kensington about ten years ago from Saltsburg.
The Star Theatre presents a special Friday showing of Camille an acclaimed reproduction of scenes from the famed play La Dame Aux Camelias. Renowned performer Alexander Domas stars in the production, praised for its faithful presentation and strong dramatic scenes.
