Three persons were injured in a head-on auto collision on Devil's Elbow Hill late last night. One victim was reported to be in the hospital locally with injuries. Police investigated the two-vehicle crash and said both cars bore extensive damage.
Late last night a three-vehicle collision on Devil's Elbow hill of the Benjamin Franklin highway near Indiana injured three men. Robert Margone 42 and Frank Castellette 35 of Apollo and Wilbur Ray 21 of Penn Run suffered lacerations and a fracture in Margone's case. Margone remained in good condition today at Indiana hospital while Castellette was discharged after treatment for leg lacerations. The third vehicle’s driver Domenick Rudari 81 of Apollo was unhurt. Patrolmen report Rudari drove on the wrong side and a reckless driving charge is pending.
The world premiere of Pace In the Sky starring Spencer Tracy and Marion Nixon is being shown today at the Fulton Theatre in Pittsburgh. At the Ritz Theatre the feature is the main attraction tomorrow and Friday, with Hearst News to follow on Friday and Saturday and on subsequent Fridays and Saturdays.
Treasury balance as of Jan 24 is $359 175 560.74 with expenditures of $4 075 088.17 and customs receipts of $14 461 225.30. Washington reports the balance and receipts for the period ending January 24.
Philadelphia January 26. The Pennsylvania High Court reverses part of the Butler trial verdicts involving Mayor Charles H. Kline of Pittsburgh and Bertram D. Succop. Judge Finletter may grant a new trial or sentence, potentially removing Kline from office if no new trial is awarded. Succop’s conviction on 29 counts remains upheld.
Samuel Wilson a Braddock butcher is found shot in Hangman’s Hollow near Universal. Police link the slaying to Detroit gangsters blamed for a sugar and yeast racket past life. Investigators say Wilson may have been targeted over a real or imagined double cross after leaving Detroit.
Jan 26 Butler. Mabel Campbell 43 retired superintendent of Butler County Memorial Hospital and World War nurse has died after a lengthy illness. She also served as former superintendent of the Markleton Sanitorium at Somerset.
Paris dispatch reports Mrs. C. H. P. Belmont a leading New York society figure and National Women's Party president died after long illness and strokes. She was nearly 80. Her sons William K. and Harold Vanderbilt were notified. Daughter Consuelo Vanderbilt Balwan was at bedside. Funeral set for Saturday at the American Cathedral. body to sail February 4 aboard the Berengaria. Belmont championed women’s rights for decades and helped enact many reforms. Born Alva K. Smith in Mobile, she rose to prominence as a debutante and married William K. Vanderbilt, later divorcing. She then wed Oliver Hazard Perry Belmont.
Reconstruction Finance Corporation data show loans during its first five months totaling 1.32 billion dollars with more than 25 percent repaid. Dawes headed the Dawes loan of 90 million to Central Republic Bank and Trust Co of Chicago, largest single grant to a bank. New York banks largely absent. railroad loans led by Baltimore and Ohio and Pennsylvania.

Two prominent local figures died on Wednesday morning. Eva Jacoby nee Thomas of Indiana and Clymer roots passed away at Indiana Hospital after surgery complications, age 27. Survived by husband Albert Jacoby and several Thomas relatives. funeral plans pending. Bill allows national branch banking in nine states and features include bank security affiliate separation, tighter securities rules, repeal of excise tax on federal reserve banks, ex officio Fed board role for treasury secretary, and a federal liquidation corporation with 126 million capital to speed bank closures.

Dr. M. Bentz Cambria county schools superintendent told Ebenshire directors he will take a voluntary 28.5 percent salary cut starting July 1 1933 reducing his pay from 7000 to 5000 with 2000 cut for assistants from 3500 to 3000 the minimum for assistant superintendents. His assistants Miss Sarah Jones Miss Clara Schryock and W G Stephens agreed to the reduced figures. The group opposed consolidation and urged economy in school operation including ending the annual teachers county institute and abridging the 1992 04 directory.

Anthracite production in December 1982 reached 6,089,000 net tons, up 19 percent from the prior month. Bituminous output fell 1.6 percent in the same period, with 75,000,000 tons projected for 1982, the lowest since 1900 according to the Department of Mines.
