Harrisburg AP reports Republican House Leader Smith says any final tax program must be decided on the House floor not behind closed doors. Democrats push a 3 percent sales tax bill with slim chances absent a bipartisan compromise and Readinger hints at a 2 percent sale tax plus 2 percent personal income tax.
Washington hopes to win Eden support for shelving Red China in the United Nations for another year. Britain backs Red China rarely, but U S policy stands firm. Russia likely to raise the issue again next fall as election pressures mount.

A week of sorrow struck Mrs. N. M. Holdsworth of 60 East Pike as her brother Charles Wallace Neptune, 52, of Export, died at work in Wendell Yar Irwin last Thursday. His body lay in state at Ernest Funeral Parlor in Export with services held yesterday. Mrs. Bertha Neptune, 62, Holdsworth’s mother, died of a heart attack at about 6:30 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. A double funeral was set for Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. in Export.
Providence Rhode Island television WPRO TV filmed a major blaze at the City Hall Hardware Co annex by pointing a camera out a fifth floor studio window four blocks away. The shot came from the station's studio atop the building.
Clair D. Fleming 43 pleaded guilty to larceny in a hearing before a Clymer area justice. He admitted stealing nearly 5000 feet of lumber valued at about $300 from a Green Township yard owned by Leon Williams of Smicksburg. Fleming held in Indiana County jail on $2,000 bail. The thefts occurred in September October and November of last year.

In Martinsville Indiana a 31 year old Sunday school teacher identified as Robert Heckman believed he was Jesus Christ and fatally harmed his wife Jane E Heckman 30 and two sons Rick 11 and Chad 10 with a public safety item at their Brooklyn home. The bodies were found in a bathtub and hall outside the bathroom. Heckman told Sheriff Victor Young he sent them to heaven and claimed the name Jesus Christ. Morgan County grand jury to consider case. no charges filed yet. He had been treated at a private mental facility in Indianapolis last September.
A fire likely from a circuit fault destroyed Mt. Joy Methodist Church five miles north of Clarion, PA on Saturday night. Rev. James Cox, pastor, estimated the loss at $22,000.

Sorilla is Dead ST Louis reports that Bobo a playful eight year old 275 pound gorilla at the St Louis Zoo died of a heart attack. Zoo Director George Vier zei called him an attraction you cannot put a price on noting heart attacks are unusual for a gorilla while parasites are often the killer.
The Bellefield Co owner of Hotel Schenley Park calls a Feb. 3 stockholders meeting to vote on selling the 240 room hotel in Oakland to the University of Pittsburgh. Negotiations wrap up at about $1,800,000 with details on post sale use not disclosed.

Harvey Troub, 26, a former Indiana resident, died in Los Angeles Saturday night after battling a brain tumor. He was married to Lee Shearer and was the son of Joseph Troub, a former Indiana furniture businessman who died about a year earlier from a similar illness.
