Lennon Meets Yoko Onos In Laws In Tokyo Visit

John Lennon met Yoko Onos parents for the first time in Fujisawa near Tokyo. Mrs Eisuken Ono described Lennon as nice and gentle after dinner with the Ono family. The couple, married since 1969, were in Japan mainly for a vacation and to visit the Onos.

Bishop warns clergy on new Catholic liturgy rules

In Pittsburgh the Roman Catholic Diocese bishop Mast. Rev. Vincent M. Leonard urged clergymen to use the new rite as written, cautioning against overstepping it. He warned that those who do not follow the letter of the liturgy risk loss of diocesan faculties.

PEC Hints PUC Should Not Decide Environmental Impact

The Pennsylvania Environmental Council proposes the Pennsylvania Utilities Commission be barred from ruling on environmental acceptability of power facilities. It urges the state Department of Environmental Resources to decide plant sites and transmission routes. Curtin Winsor, council president, pressed at a PUC hearing about environmental review being added to normal power facility assessments. He questioned the commission's qualification to handle such environmental power decisions.

Environmental program aims to cut farm pollution

Agriculture Secretary Clifford M. Hardin announced the Rural Environmental Assistance Program for 1971. The plan retools cost sharing for conservation practices to curb water and soil pollution, promotes community projects, and emphasizes on and off farm benefits with local farmer committees selecting actions. The program, managed by ASCS, funds about half of permanent, beneficial practices while de-emphasizing routine farming methods.

Denial of bid to extend police restraint order

A federal judge in Philadelphia refused to extend a restraining order against city police, filed by a citizens’ group to curb alleged constitutional rights violations at the Black Panther Party convention last September. The order had expired November 1, after a four month hearing with over 90 witnesses testifying.
