Secretary Charles H. Patton leads a campaign that reverses a decade of decline in Pennsylvania sheep. Counties like Washington, Greene, Wyoming, and Delaware show 4–6 percent increases, aided by higher prices for sheep and wool and better dog protection under the 11th Act. Farmers are urged to raise more sheep as state prices rise from about 5.40 to 7 dollars per head and wool from 25 to 34 cents per pound.
The Bureau of Employment of the Department of Labor and Industry has completed arrangements with the Philipsburg Chamber of Commerce to open employment opportunities in Centre County.
A statewide effort to expand employment bureaus through chamber cooperation spreads from Harrisburg to Philadelphia Pittsburgh and other cities. A Hazelton chamber backed office will open after a January 24 banquet. Ten new offices may open within 30 days in towns including DuBois Lancaster Coatesville Philipsburg and Tiazelton. Commissioner John Price Jackson announced the plan. Jacol Lichtner will explain chamber operations at a Commerce meeting attended by representatives from Wilkes Barre Scranton Pittston Pottsville and Williamsport.
A slow storm slowed attendance Sunday morning but rain in the afternoon cut few worshipers. At First Presbyterian many joined a visiting evangelist in a Heredity lecture and a duet by Mrs Pollock and Mrs Taylor brightened services. Nearly four hundred took communion at mid winter service, with 38 new members welcomed and a large crowd present. An afternoon home visit and a second communion evening service followed, while a Men’s meeting promoted National Preparedness with a purity theme. Alexander will speak again at Mat United Presbyterian, with nightly prayer services planned.
