At Juniata College in Huntingdon Pennsylvania medical staff fought an illness among students labeled virus X. Ninety one cases were reported yesterday with none seriously ill. The college nurse said forty eight women and thirty eight men treated, plus five more cases among married veterans off campus.
Secretary of Agriculture Anderson urged brewers to voluntarily cut grain use by 20 percent for the grain shortage period. He warned Congress could grant authority to impose reductions if industry groups fail to agree. A Brewers committee was formed to draft a proposed conservation plan at the meeting under anti inflation act provisions.
James A Simpson prominent farmer and church leader of White Township died leaving a large farm, longtime elder of First United Presbyterian Indiana and former president of the Agricultural Extension Bureau. Survived by three daughters, a son, a sister, a brother, and eight grandchildren. Visitation today and Thursday service at Dodson Mortuary conducted by Rev James K Leitch with Greenwood Cemetery interment.
Washington Jan 20 House Labor Committee chair Hartley said he will summon leading band figures to testify on the AFM ban on musical recordings and to assess James Petrillo’s management. He will question the leaders after Petrillo testifies tomorrow as four major radio networks face scrutiny over alleged intimidation as contracts with the AFM near expiry.

James Hartmann a 15 year old youth was convicted of murder in the knife slaying of a minister s wife and sentenced by a jury to 25 years in prison The jury had asked to strongly consider the death penalty Hartmann smiled in court and thanked his attorneys his mother Kathleen Hartmann cried and said they were pleased He must serve 13 years nine months before parole eligibility.
The Kiwanis Club marked its 33rd anniversary during a Monday dinner in the Lewis Dining Room with the Educational Committee in charge. County Agent Harold McDougall spoke on member responsibilities and Kiwanis as big business, noting 2700 clubs with about 200000 members guiding the message It’s fun to live in America. The club announced formation of a new Kiwanis Club in Clymer and reported President George Rickenberger’s recovery from illness. Music will feature Scottish selections and attendance awards at the next meeting on January 28.
