Two Steamer Collision in Delaware River Near Bridge
In Philadelphia on January 20 a collision occurred between the Manchester Merchant and the Margaret in the Delaware River above the new Delaware bridge. One crew member was reported killed. The Manchester Merchant, British-registered and bound for Baltimore with a residue cargo, and the American Margaret, from Freeport with sulphur, were midstream when the crash happened. Manchester went to Gramps' ship yard for repairs while the Margaret docked for survey.
