It carried 490 prisoners and 6 000 tons of wheat 2 800 tons of flour 1 900 horses 6 300 cases of rifle cartridges 30 000 rolls of barbed wire 3 300 tons of steel bars and meat. The prisoners came from one Norwegian and seven British vessels. The prize crew was led by Deputy Officer Badewitz. St Theodore armed by Germans cruising as auxiliary cruiser warned shipping.
A cable from British Foreign Secretary Arthur Balfour to American Druggists' Syndicate president Charles L. Goddard said Britain can supply medicines despite strained resources. The message answered Goddard's inquiry about foreign drug reliance and high prices amid global shortages.
