In Washington Jan represent ative Hobson of Alabama urged Congress to appropriate funds to fortify the Panama Canal as President Roosevelt proposed. He rejected Keifer's neutral territory idea, citing wartime realities like Manchuria. Hobson warned a strong nation would seize neutral zones in war. He argued the canal is government property needing protection after heavy expenditure. Also: attacks on Postmaster General Hitchock’s economy policy by Small Saunders and Steenerson over postal reforms and royal free delivery extension.
Frank T. Gravatt, former president of the Northern Bank of New York, was indicted by a grand jury on a misdemeanor charge for concealing and failing to report a $69,000 loan to two companies controlled by Joseph G. Rodin. The loan was made on Sept to Rodin associates, now under indictment for grease larceny.
Miss Maude Willis, reader, appears at Normal Chapel under Y M C A auspices on Monday evening Jan 28. She will present The Lion and the Mouse or The Third Degree, two plays praised nationwide. Prof H E Cogswell praises her as one of the best readers he has heard.

Mrs. filigabeth Mulhallén Sherbing fed.at known as Mrs. Sherbine aged 66 died after a cerebral hemorrhage causing paralysis on Thursday afternoon. Mother of Alvin Sherbine a Normal School graduate 1898 veteran of Company F Fifth Regiment in the Spanish American War. Funeral services set for Saturday afternoon at Wilmore.
