Rescue squads recovered the bodies of six miners Frank Seffered Dewey Seffered Harvey Seffered Ernest Snead and Foster Boyd and Artie Boyd in a Pulaski county anthracite mine. The blast trapped them in a secluded shaft as 14 others escaped. Rescue workers fought gas and debris without masks, and fears of further collapse lingered.
Pittsburgh Jan. 19. Fred Collins, a negro convict and accused slayer of Elizabeth Hickok, daughter of prison psychiatrist Dr. Asa Lee Hickok, was the only patient of the psych ward at Rockview Penitentiary. Prison officials announced no other patients will be assigned to work at ward residents or prison officials homes.
Washington January 19 reports the Treasury net balance on January 16 at 366,157,636.22 dollars. Expenditures that day totaled 8,875,209.38 dollars. Customs receipts for the month through January 16 amounted to 16,125,196.34 dollars.
Emerson Frick son of C Frick is a patient in the Indiana Hospital. He is responding nicely to treatment and will be discharged within a short time.

He then left for London to meet his wife. Athens reports the world’s longest air passage from Java to Amsterdam at 10 000 miles with the same crew and plane.
Norman C. Ball 69 editor and publisher of the Clarion Republican and Knox Herald died at his home in Clarion Pa from bronchial pneumonia. He had served as managing editor of the Pittsburgh Leader and was active in local civic affairs including the Clarion State Teachers College and Clarion Community Club. Survived by widow Clara Latehan Ball and two daughters Ruth Davis and Catherine Baker. Miss Jane Cary died January 16 1982 at age 87 from Canoe Township Indiana County. Services held at Covode Presbyterian Church with Rev Mooney officiating.
Charles W. Kirker son of Mrs. Margaret Kirker wed Miss Esther K. Long daughter of W. Jay Long in Hollidaysburg January 8 with Rev. T Stacy Draper officiating. After a brief motor trip the couple plan to reside in Reading.
Kiwanis officials from the West Central District honored Indiana Kiwanis at a Monday evening party marking Kiwanis International’s seventeenth birthday. District Governor Frank J. Wallis and Lt. Governor Leon P. Bennett spoke on the Pennsylvania District and membership stabilization as clubs in the region received awards for attendance and individual contributions. A chicken dinner followed as the event opened with singing, invocations, and introductions by District Trustee Beryl E. Seanor.
The Tabernacle hosts a series of evening events with prayer meetings at 7 p m and 7 15 p m followed by a Great Church night at 8 p m led by Evangelist Stephens. A youth meeting at the First Methodist featured Stephens Storrs and Eleanor Stephens and drew a large Indiana crowd with a flute solo by Miss Ansley.
Berlin Jan 19 President Hindenburg used emergency powers to raise tariffs on goods from non gold standard nations and those lacking trade treaties. All members and former members are requested to be present and bring a new member who will be obligated without initiation. Following the obligations of new Members a special entertainment will be given.

He recalls the Bermuda Hundred battle May 26 1864 a cracked leg and continues to live in his birth place managing his housework since his wife died 15 years ago.

Judge J. N. Langham imposed sentences on eight defendants who pleaded guilty as indicted when the court met yesterday at 10:00 am. Antonio Oleskingki faced manufacturing and possessing intoxicating liquor with sentence suspended on costs. William W. Butler received costs, a $200 fine, and 80 days in county jail for operating while intoxicated. Otto B. Stock stood for arson with sentence suspended on costs.
Greiner Baking Company invites Indiana tradesmen and their guests to a reception at its new modern plant as part of a grand opening. The open house runs from 7:30 to 9:00 and includes a dance evening. Officials say the event continues with public access and demonstrations for nearby counties.
J. F. Buchheit of St. Paul Minnesota arrived in Indiana after weather halted his planned air trip from Bettis Field Pittsburgh. He visited his brothers E C Buchheit of South Seventh Street and Harry J Buchheit of South Sixth Street and continued by train from Cleveland to Pittsburgh.
Mrs H W Longenecker brought a glass jar to the office this morning containing sprightly grasshoppers. She says their orchard is virtually teeming with the insects as signs of spring emerge in Jacksonville.
Chicago suburb Melrose Park adopts a cash and carry fire protection policy charging non residents for alarm responses while local residents receive free fire service. Chief Dan Passarella warns that unpaid calls will halt service and cars may be held until payment. Arthur Langredar, non resident, had his car burn and the department kept the vehicle until paid.
In Hammond Louisiana three men were shot during the Democratic primary day violence. Elmer Dunnington died Red Bates was critically wounded and Kinnen Bridges received a flesh wound as gunmen fired in a downtown street clash. The vote sought a successor to Huey P. Long and tested his political machine with O K Allen as governor hopeful.

Dr. Chas. H. Bee stated this morning that many believed Dr. M. M. Davis served as county physician for the County and Willard Homes, prompting calls for medical attention. The Board of County Commissioners appointed Dr. Davis as physician for the two homes, announced at Dr. Bee's request.
A major blaze swept the McEwen Hardware building on East Broad Street in Bethlehem at 4 o clock in the afternoon destroying the three story block. Bethlehem firemen aided by crews from Brookville Clarion and nearby towns battled the flames as a block of business property faced destruction. Loss was estimated in the thousands with seven Nash automobiles and factory inventory burned or damaged. Firefighters used chemicals and water to contain the fire and prevent further spread. The blaze was under control by evening with crews continuing to scour the wreckage. Continued details noted on page 5.
Li Saltsburg, walking from Latrobe toward Kingston with plans to meet a relative in Somerset, collapsed from exhaustion along a highway. A motorist found her and she was taken to Latrobe Hospital where she recovered. Her husband and sister were involved in her care and the hospital said she would be returned home after examination.
A patient in AESheny County Woodville Pennsylvania rolled in an early incident. The coroner said Jacob Myers died after becoming entangled in a tie sheet at the hospital. Myers had arrived last December 1 from Lebanon suburb.
A fully furnished doll house on display in Streams Gift Shop window draws many children and adults. It was planned and built by W B H Culbertson of Norty Ninth Street, Indiana, for two year old Mistress Barbara Brown, daughter of Mr and Mrs H P Brown of Bimba.
