Carter Proposes Austere 1980 Budget Cuts 158000 Public Jobs

President Carter's 1980 budget would eliminate 158000 public jobs and cut the CETA program by 700 million, plus end 250000 federally subsidized summer jobs for underprivileged youth. A tax credit plan would offset cuts by encouraging private hiring of poor and chronically unemployed adults. The package totals 532 billion with a 29 billion deficit.

Icy crash on Cramer Pike kills Indiana man in near head-on

New Autos Damaged In Derailment Near Hamilton

A B&O C&O derailment near Granny Coon Crossing on Mahoning Creek damaged eleven rail cars, seven carrying autos from Detroit. Four cars held road salt. No injuries reported. Cleanup began after noon with track crews at work. officials cite a broken rail as the cause.

Oldest Direct Ancestor of Man Identified by Anthropologists

Two researchers in Cleveland report a 4 million year old ape like creature dubbed Australopithecus afarensis as the oldest direct ancestor of humans. The Afar ape man walked upright and possessed human like body with ape face and brain. Findings based on fossils from Tanzania and Ethiopia will be published in Science.
