Praying Cop Shot Dead in Chestnut Hill Manor
Police Inspector John W. Blackburn known as the Praying Cop was killed in his 26 years on the force. Two other officers were wounded when W Griffin Gribbel, a 48 year old former Union League Club president, opened fire in Gribbel's palatial Chestnut Hill home before Gribbel was subdued. Gribbel, a shell shocked World War veteran and father of six, was to be taken to a sanitarium. Blackburn is survived by his widow and five children.

Four Boys Burned to Death in Philly Club Rooms Fire
