Indiana Navy Recruiting Office announces former Regular Navy enlisted men with specific ratings may reenlist within a year of discharge and retain their rate. The program lasts until June 30, 1953, and covers those eligible soldiers returning to active duty.
Dayton area Young Farmers held their first meeting at Grange Hall, listing roles from chief to yeoman and noting 75 members enrolled. Delegates were named for a state farm show, with Wallace Rupp presiding and reports planned for the February session.
Marion Center Marine Pv James D. Hadden, son of Mr. and Mrs. Archie Hadden of Route 4, Marion Center, is to complete recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot Paris Island S C early in January. Ten weeks of intensive training include close order drill parades ceremonies Marine Corps history personal hygiene and defense against chemical and atomic attack with three weeks on the rifle range.
Troop 28 of the Boy Scouts of America aims to fund a proposed camping trip to Canada with a series of fund raising efforts starting with a chicken and biscuit dinner next Thursday. Troop 29 will hold its dinner in the social hall of the First Presbyterian Church as sponsor, served from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Tickets are available now from scouts.
Indiana Marine Cpl. James BR McCurdy of Route 2 Indiana joins the 3rd Marine Division Band serving in Japan. The Mullany, part of the Atlantic Fleet transfer to the Pacific Fleet, will cruise Western Pacific visiting Hawaii Japan and the Philippines. The band, popular in civil and military functions, continues to perform for various events.
The band has the chance to travel to many places across the island s empire. Chicago home brewed toffee is priced about ten cents per piece according to current estimates.
