Two Die as Bus Crash Kills Pedestrian Victim
A crowded bus, trailer truck, and car collided near the Queensboro Bridge in Manhattan bound traffic. Post Office Employee Killed in Robinson Gun Battle
In Robinson Illinois a janitor, 54 year old Harry D. Taylor, died after a gunfight with two inspectors from Springfield and Effingham. Inspector James A. Thompson was fatally shot twice in the chest, while fellow inspector J. J. Scherer suffered serious head injuries. The incident followed allegations of mail theft as officers questioned Taylor near the postage window and money order room. Taylor seized a pistol, exchanged fire, and collapsed.
