On January 15 a group calling itself Vigilantes posted threats around Berkshire Isiniting mills in Reading warning to stay off the Berkshire picket line. George Rhoads, head of the Federated Trades Council, said a letter was sent to Governor George HH Barle.
A Berkshire area letter urged declaring martial law to close the mill as a menace to life. A 6000 name petition was presented to the city council by J Howard Jacobs. The letter warned Vigilantes would enforce order if depredations continued, citing terrorism plots inspired by Hitler. Also reports of violent threats and recruiting of guards, plus obituaries for Margaret Toth and Bohovich child, with funeral details provided.
Harrisburg Jan 15 1937 recommendations for streamlining county fairs will be discussed at the 25th annual convention of the State Association of County Fairs in the capital January 27 and 28. Replacing old sideshows with up to date attractions will be debated.
Mary Ann Young, 70, Saltsbury resident for 13 years, died after a hip fracture at Allegheny Valley Hospital Tarentum. Survived by two sons and two daughters, funeral 2:30 pm at Dunn home, Rev Morgan in charge. interment Edgewood Cemetery. Elsie May Cohen, 14, Brenizer near Blairsville, died at Indiana Hospital. daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Cohen, funeral Sunday.
Rail lines and highways flooded as Wabash river rose to 20 feet and Ohio river near Cincinnati neared flood stage. Portland Indiana businesses submerged while Herrin Illinois and Makanda Illinois faced seven feet of water. Eastern Illinois lowlands flooded thousands of acres. coal mines flooded. Oil City Pennsylvania faced threatened business districts. Meteorologist warned against major inundation despite severe flooding. Louisville area streets flooded as Ohio River tributaries surged.
Experts estimate gross farm income for 1936 at about 89.53 billion with cash farm sales near 8.1 billion. They note income up 12 percent while expenses rose 6 percent, giving farmers purchasing power near the highest in 18 years and a 3 percent rise in total farm product volume despite smaller crop output.

Funeral services for the housewife were held in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, where she married Case nearly 14 months ago.
Members of the Workers Alliance of America gather in Washington to demand an emergency relief appropriation of 1.04 billion dollars, opposed to Roosevelt's 790 million proposal. The largely WPA group plans a march to the Capitol via the White House and intends to leave a petition with the President. about 2,000 attendees from across the nation participated, with large delegations from New York Philadelphia and Baltimore.

A. M. Liveright, a Clearfield County lawyer for 42 years and former county solicitor, died in Washington, D. C., after a weeklong illness from pneumonia. He was active in efforts to lower seaboard freight rates for coal operators and was named by Secretary James Bogardus for his emphasis on related projects. The exhibit will cover forest fire damage tree nursery stock and planting.
