Readmission Effort For Two Negro Students At Georgia

At Athens Georgia the FBI and the Georgia General Assembly opened probes into rioting on the University of Georgia campus as two Negro students Charlayne Hunter and Hamilton Holmes seek readmission after suspension from an anti integration demonstration. Constance Motley asked the U S District Court in Macon to overturn the suspension and the judge ordered a written motion. The Justice Department said it was initiating a preliminary investigation into possible federal law violations amid mob action. A five man subcommittee of the Georgia House began hearings in Athens to verify reports and rumors of events, with Speaker George L Smith promising no whitewash or witch hunt.

Cuba Claims Torture at Gitmo and Cuban support

Revolucion accuses the United States of torturing a Cuban worker at Guantanamo Bay to force a spy confession. Manuel Prieto Gomez, 32, allegedly endured hours of torture as he was said to sympathize with the Cuban revolution. The El Mundo paper published a similar report with a hospital photo.

Last Mule Barn In Memphis Becomes Cattle Trade Hub

MEMPHIS Tenn AP The last mule barn in Memphis once the world’s biggest mule market is being converted to cattle trade. Wade H Tribble heads the firm saying mule demand dwindled as farmers prefer tractors. In 1943 the market handled 19000 mules monthly. by now only six remain, with half headed for a dog food plant in Lingis.

Pennsylvania urges use of federal funds for aged medical care

Harrisburg AP Pennsylvania should immediately utilize existing federal funds for medical care of the aged rather than waiting for any new federal program.
