Seven people die in Florida air crashes on Sunday. Two light planes collided while landing at Miami Aviation Center, killing four aboard and onlookers, including Mrs. Muriel Owens and Mrs. Viola Lindner. An army trainer from Orlando Air Base crashed nearby, with victims not yet named.

Accident Toll Jumps 50 Percent In Six County Area

In six county north central Pennsylvania, Troop C reports 58 deaths and 712 injuries from 905 traffic accidents in Clarion Clearfield Elk Forest Jefferson and McKean Counties. Two deaths occurred in Northern Indiana County. During 1948, 37 people were killed and 80 accidents investigated.

Georgia Governor Battle Looms as Assembly Opens

In Atlanta on January 13 the Georgia General Assembly convened to elect presiding officers and prepare for business as it weighs who will become governor. Lieut. Governor-elect M E Thompson and Herman Talmadge claim legislative majorities for their succession plans, with a possible special election debated by some junior representatives. The governor will likely be chosen in a joint session after canvassing the returns, with Thompson promising to canvass and declare Eugene Talmadge elected and then take acting duties until a direct vote next year. Governor Ellis Arnal resigned, effective immediately. Talmadge claims broad support across the legislature to elect the governor from the top vote-getters under the constitution.

Tragedy Linked to Inoperative Radio Beacon

Early morning reports say a failed beacons range, recently taken from the Army, produced weak signals and lost power with no standby supply. Maintenance later found it working at 2:45 a.m. A big plane en route from Detroit struck trees for 500 yards, its wings torn, fuselage resting near Route 94.

Six fires hit Philadelphia overnight and injure two firemen

Six fires across Philadelphia last night and today displaced guests at a hotel and residents of an apartment building, burned a warehouse, and caused lumber losses. Firefighters battled a 24 story chimney blaze atop Atlantic Refining Co. with ladders braced against the chimney while gusty winds challenged water lines. Two firefighters were injured after being knocked from elevated tracks during a Front Street warehouse fire fed by greasy wool and motor lubricant. No one was reported killed.

Wave of Accidents Strikes Area Over Weekend

A weekend spate of crashes left six people injured in multiple incidents near Indiana and Blairsville. William Emmons, 28, sustained head lacerations and was treated at a hospital. Mary Broomons, 28, fractured her left ankle and forehead lacerations, listed in fair condition. Beverly Hanley, 21, discharged after scalp cuts and bruises. A third accident on Route 60 near Clymer injured two adults and a four-year-old, with Ivo White and Mae Hildebrand among the wounded. A fourth crash near Blairsville involved a vehicle overturning. Goering Henchmen To Testify At Milch Trial Hearing

Albert Speer former armaments minister Grand Admiral Erich Raeder and Baron Konstantin Von Neurath will appear as witnesses in the Milch trial. Nine State Search For Missing TwoYearOld Tot

In Audubon New Jersey a two year old girl named Carol Todt vanished while playing in a living room. A large search began with more than 100 police and firemen after she wandered from the center of the room to an open second floor apartment door. Mrs Todt reported the disappearance as the girl climbed stairs from the street and found the door ajar. Blanche Hammond found Carol playing on the floor when she returned from church.

An eight man tribunal at the Flessen bute concentration camp considers charges of torturing and killing inmates. One prisoner, known as Neye, reacts in court by attempting to remove his pants, prompting a guard to intervene. He is later given six months more for contempt after a recess.

Three Gonzaga students rescued after 26 hours on Mount Spokane

Spokane dispatch says three Gonzaga University students Ned Flaherty Orjeen Burtenshaw and Richard Powell spent 26 hours atop Mount Spokane in a blizzard before a three man search party reached them. They were cold hungry but safe after the ordeal and returned to their homes.

Apollo Youth Drowns After River Barges Accident

The body of John Turkle, 21, of Apollo, who fell from a Monongahela River coal barge near Elco on Saturday, was recovered the same day. Turkle, a deck hand, struggled toward shore in heavy clothing and galoshes as two mates pursued him but disappeared under water about 20 yards from the craft. He had managed to kick off one heavy galosh before sinking.

Drone Plane On Practice Mission At Elgin Field

An Army B-17 drone plane with a mother ship will launch from Elgin Field Florida for a nonstop round trip to Washington DC. The drone will be controlled remotely and drop a dummy bomb off Richmond Virginia in a test of pilotless bombing within the continental US. Newspaper and radio crews will ride the craft as broadcasts are planned during the flight.

Cyclist Killed In Morrisville Collision

One man died and another was seriously hurt when a motorcycle collided with a car on Lincoln Highway one mile west of Morrisville. Patrick O'Connor, 43, formerly of Elizabeth, New Jersey, was killed after being thrown from the motorcycle. Frank Williams, 53, remained in critical condition at Mercer Hospital in Trenton with multiple injuries. The pair had been living at a trailer camp outside Morrisville.
