7,000 Chicago teachers faced an unpaid lunch hour as a Creekside man named Domanick Romanic surrendered to authorities seven hours after allegedly murdering Joe Jordan of Creekside Intron. Sheriff Eugene Wilson and others arrested Romanic, who confessed after capture at the Kaufman homestead near White Towne Ship, and was jailed in Indiana.

The disappearance of cigarets gum tobacco cigars and candy valued over 100 from Mahoning Supply Co Coal Run was solved when Iselin Chief J Cusman arrested Charles Popovish and Michael Wayslink both 16 and jailed them to answer charges of breaking and entering and larceny before Justice Walter H Jackson. The two youths were seen by bookkeeper Alice Sodusky entering the basement stock area.

Oxygen Room by Airplane Sent to Tucson for Pneumonia
A 600 pound portable oxygen room for treating severe pneumonia was dispatched to Tucson, Arizona by Curtiss Wright Service pilots from North Beach Airport at 4 a.m. The unit was shipped in response to an urgent telegram signed by Dr. Bloom to the Oxygen Therapy Service. The plan awaited a 21 hour flight and further details of the desert sanitarium emergency were not disclosed.

Mothers Assistance Year Shows Growing Roll and Funds
The Mothers Assistance Board faced funding gaps but after a state and county appropriation boost the program expanded. By May 31 1931 there were 23 mothers supporting 114 children with 35 on a waiting list. By December 1931 with increased aid the rolls grew to 66 mothers and 224 children with several youths pursuing high school and college goals.
