Marion Center Area School Board approved a revised wage schedule for cafeteria staff effective February 1, in line with the Fair Labor Standards Act revisions. The minimum rate is set at $1 per hour with scale adjustments for non professional staff under study.
Indiana County Housing Authority officials authorized a cooperative agreement with Indiana Borough Council to coordinate any public housing in the borough. A similar agreement with the town was to be sought. The meeting discussed elderly housing near Fifth and Water Streets, with officials noting the project remains in the planning stage and not yet placed. Public notice will be provided to affected property owners with time to plan.
Bolivian Ambassador cites land reforms and pro enterprise shifts as a base for industrialization. Washington reports President Johnson's proposed 6 percent surtax would raise individual and corporate taxes by six percent on current totals. A family of four earning under 5000 yearly would be exempt, as would a single person below 1901. The tax would be calculated by adding six percent to existing amounts.

Firemen from Company 2 of the Indiana Fire Department were summoned at 2:30 a.m. to 300 South Seventh Street in Indiana. Neighbors alerted crews after noticing sparks from a chimney, but firefighters did not need to take further action.
The Indiana Department of Recreation offers a competitive swimming program on Tuesdays and Thursdays at the junior high pool from 3:30 to 6 p.m. Open to boys and girls from junior and senior high, the course teaches four strokes, with teams of 12 forming to compete. CAPE KENNEDY Fla AP the Lani Bird 2 satellite launched on a delta rocket and entered a transfer orbit en route to space high above the Pacific. Comsat plans to place it in a near stationary orbit about 22 300 miles up and use it for US Hawaii Japan and Australia communications. Comsat paid NASA 3 5 million to launch the 357 pound satellite and expects commercial service within two weeks. Lani Bird 1 failed to reach stationary orbit last Oct 26 and was written off as a 6 million dollar loss.
Two armed masked bandits robbed a Wells Fargo armored car in Miami driving off with about $120,000. A civilian, Daniel Powers of Pittsburgh, aged 18, was wounded in a crossfire when the truck stopped in an alley near Jefferson Department Stores. The robbers fled in a vehicle, and police said one carried a shotgun and the other a pistol.
A vehicle rammed a road divider sign on Route 119 near Marion Center at 5 45 pm Tuesday causing $250 in damage to the auto. Driver Francis Houta age 52 and guard Thomas Critchfield age 61 described a robbery attempt by two masked men. William Dreyer 82 of New Matamoras escaped injury in the incident. The geographic center of the District of Columbia is noted near Washington.
