Harrisburg January 11 The Pennsylvania Real Estate Association will press the state to pay approximately 25 million dollars to school districts under a law that fixes minimum salaries for teachers and supervisory staff. The executive committee authorized action under the Ziesenhart act. The statute requires full minimum salaries though it carries no appropriation and allows reductions via local real estate tax relief. Total state obligations are about 28 million dollars. Bender noted that despite the recent unconstitutionality ruling on the state income tax law, payments are expected from income tax receipts.
Veteran Honus Wagner and pitcher Bill Swift signed baseball contracts with the Pittsburgh Pirates. Wagner begins his fifth year as a Buccaneer coach and his 26th in the majors after recovering from grippe. Corry dated item notes Ida May Mills the second Mills deaconess twin of Jamestown New York buried beside her sister Ada Mary Mills. The Mills twins served as deaconesses at the First Methodist Episcopal Church for 40 years and were nationally known for their work. Ada Mary died in 1930.
