Exonerations of per capita school taxes in Indiana County for 1933–34 totaled 80,433.69 dollars, about 46 percent of the 146,083 dollar total levy. Real estate tax assessed was 485,561.40 dollars. Collections for county tax officials included 14,940.29 dollars in total, with 9,082.93 before penalties and 5,854.96 during the penalty period.
Snow flurries forecast today by government weather observer Robert Tross. Mercury rose 13 degrees in four hours yesterday from 38 at 6 am to 52 at 10 am. The temperature at 8 pm reached 41 and then fell to 32 by 7 am today.
Wilmington January 1. William Ellis confessed to eating his landlord Moward Davidsons cat after failing to receive relief aid since December 14. Ellis described the meal as tasty and offered to share with his wife who refused. Authorities and the humane society will investigate. Ellis, father of four, lives with relatives in Maryland. DeMolay presents four one act plays at college tonight at 8:15 admission 26e 17x.
Washington January 11 officials of the veterans administration estimate the Patman cash bonus bill would cost 8.5 billion while a substitute paying the face value would cost 2 billion. Administration leaders aim to push the substitute after the Patman measure and seek support to sustain President Roosevelt’s veto. Also a notice asks firemen to report if the house bells rang during today’s siren test.
Hollywood January 11. Mary Pickford was absent from usual haunts as she filed for divorce from Douglas Fairbanks. She testified to three years residence in Los Angeles county and that no community property settlement was made. Judge Ben B Lindsey granted the divorce after a brief hearing.
Student teachers from Indiana State Teachers College were guests of honor at a farewell banquet in Johnstown at the Capital Hotel. Dr. Charles R. Foster and Miss Jennie M. Ackerman attended from Indiana, with Johnstown and Viennity guests including Willard Ackley and Dr. A. M. Stull serving as speaker.
Two motor coaches nicknamed hoodle-bugs were badly damaged in a Timblin shed fire on Tuesday night. Fire started by an overheated stove, spread between both coaches, contained by a closed steel shed before New Bethlehem firemen arrived with chemicals. Despite each coach carrying a tank of gasoline, no explosion occurred.
Pittsburgh rivers stopped rising after 48 hours and held at about five feet below flood level. The Allegheny River at the Point reached 19.2 feet while the flood stage is 28 feet, with weather officials noting only a slight danger of further rise.
BENSON DILL 65, formerly of Dilltown, died Thursday at Indiana hospital after a brief pneumonia illness. Survived by three daughters, a sister, 11 grandchildren, and four great grandchildren. Funeral services Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at Robinson Funeral Home conducted by Rev. P. W. Large. Burial in Armagh cemetery. Wade Dill predeceased him.
Ossining N Y Jan 11 Sing Sing Prisons grim death chair today had claimed two more victims Harold Seaman 21 of Brooklyn and Vincent Walsh 21 of New York were electrocuted within minutes of each other last night Seaman with Frank Graham and George Benedetto was convicted of killing John O Dwyer during the hold up of a Brooklyn tavern The sentences of Graham and Benedetto were commuted to life imprisonment yesterday.
Word has been received that General Adelbert Cronkheit, commander of the 8th Division, will attend a get-together tonight at the V. F. W. Club in Pittsburgh. A delegation of former d0ih men from Pittsburgh will join former members of the 80th Division and veterans of other divisions for the gathering.

The 1935 first L T L GL meeting will be held in the W C T U building at 4 pm on Monday January 14. All former attendees are invited with a guest to hear plans for the new year. The W C T U meeting follows at 7 30 pm with motion pictures led by Miss Laura Ansley.
The Cardinals travel to a High School gym tomorrow night at 8 30 with opponents undetermined between a Franklin Pennsylvania team or a Pittsburgh color team. The Franklin squad features a seven foot center.
Mme Marcella Sembrich, 76, once the world’s most famous soprano, died today at her New York home from heart complications. The renowned vocalist, active in concert and opera, left a lasting imprint on the music world and public life.

Indiana County Democrats and their ladies travel to Harrisburg for Governor-elect George H. Earle's inauguration next Tuesday. Rev Charles Van Winkle age 7 of Pittsburgh and his brother William H. Van Winkle age 32 of New Kensington, injured in the Sunday South Bend bridge wreck, were reported slightly better. Passenger Robert Zimmerman age 41 of Leechburg R D 2 showed marked improvement. The New Kensington driver swerved to avoid a 40 foot drop, causing the crash.
Mona Farmery, 14, of Glen Campbell, was admitted to Indiana Hospital at 10 a m for a severe scalp laceration after being struck by a car on her way to school. Hospital report stated the condition was not serious.
In Honolulu January 11 reports from the mainland that Amelia Earhart would take off today in a low wing airplane for Honolulu to California flight were denied by her husband George Putnam.
In Flemington New Jersey today an art instructor John Condax said he signed for a German book before the Lindbergh baby kidnapping and death, implicating himself as the writer of the ransom notes. Handwriting expert General H Norma Schwarzkopf testified Hauptmann’s handwriting matched samples from a 1924 New York position, supporting the Hauptmann murder case.
Incendiaries suspected as fire authorities battle a massive blaze in downtown Pittsburgh. The eight story vacant structure gutted, losses pegged at 150000 dollars. Twelve injured including two spectators, most hurt were firemen. firemen confined flames with water screens on adjacent buildings. A $500 reward offered for firebug identity. Fire began on the fifth floor.

Charles Smith, 48, died when a coal lump crushed his chest after he warned a fellow miner of trouble during a bearing operation at Barnes & Tucker Coal Co. Coroner Cyrus W. Davis closed the investigation and set funeral for Monday at Thomas Episcopal Church. Surviving are his widow Mary, two sons, a daughter, and several siblings.
