Indiana community center ice pond suffered extensive vandalism last night with damaged pipes seats fire places and tool shed lock. Ray Simpson, borough recreation chair, says a significant sum was spent to create a permanent winter recreation spot and suspects the destruction was done by local kids. A sheriff search for clues is underway after authorities were notified.
Seven Indiana County banks were reorganized in stockholders meetings with R. L. George, 95, reelected to the presidency of Peoples' Bank West Lebanon. George has led the bank since 1921 except for one year and the organization by communities followed. Homer City State Alex Bennett was reelected president after nine terms. A coroner's jury held Joseph Thomas of Johnstown for grand jury action in the manslaughter case arising from the traffic death of Mrs. Agnes Cooper of Dormant suburb. Police testimony indicated a physician ruled Thomas intoxicated after the December accident. A benefit dance featuring Learn's Orchestra is planned for Friday night at the Square Dance Brush Valley Sportsman's Hall to aid the March of Dimes.
The first regular monthly meeting of the Indiana Borough Council for 1952 was largely routine with most business referred to committees. Nearby property owners sought sewer access on Route 119 and paving funds for Carter avenue, with actions referred to the Street Committee and finance budget planning. A petition from residents asked for crossing protection for children at Philadelphia street near 10th and 11th streets.
An overheated flue sparked a small fire in a one story frame building on East Pike Indiana yesterday afternoon. Firemen said the unoccupied structure owned by Mrs. Roxie Stewart was damaged only slightly. The blaze occurred near a two story residence.
Bradford, Pa. report states George Kuceni of Greensburg RD 7 will face a preliminary hearing January 19 on charges of shooting a man by mistake while hunting in Meehan County on Thanksgiving Day. The victim is Oliver Olsen from near Bradford. Both were deer hunting.
Harry A. Tomb is elected to his 19th term as president of the Armagh Borough Council as his group and 14 other local law making bodies reorganize. Homer Jeffries retained as head of Marion Center Borough Council for his 11th term. Blairsville James M. Turner becomes president of council for a third year after reelection. Other officers include John A. Fatora secretary and Charles E Harkins treasurer. New and reelected members: Albert V. Eisaman Paul D. Heasley Knox M. Kerr John Lipsie James Steele. Burgess William C. In Ravenna Nebraska an Air Force pilot guided a forced landing to a brightly lit baseball field after circling a dark airport. He dropped a beacon from his aircraft, guiding spectators to illuminate the route while the plane landed safely on the makeshift runway.
