Two minor automobile wrecks were reported to the police yesterday. The first at Church and Thirteenth streets involved Clair Thomas of Sherodd and Cris Flick of Homer City. a mailbox was knocked over and a girl in Thomas’s car was slightly hurt and taken to Indiana Hospital. The second crash occurred at Oak and Ninth streets with Kerr driving east on Oak.

In Shanghai on January 9 Christy Mathewson Jr, son of the famed pitcher, survived a plane crash that killed his bride of two weeks while honeymooning at Lunghua. Rescuers dragged him from the wreck. he spoke softly asking that his wife be cared for. The couple had married December 24 in Shanghai. the bride was Margaret Phillips of Philadelphia. The plane, owned by Finance Minister Soung, dove into a mud bank during takeoff after a water landing. Mathewson, a former army air service cadet, was an aviation instructor for the national government. The tragedy follows a string of connections to Hangchow.
