46 Infants Saved In Fire In Newark New Jersey
Newark Ont Wh Jan 7 A fire on the first floor of Bates Hospital forced student nurses to evacuate six babies from the second and third floors. None suffered apparent injuries. Nurses and residents aided the evacuation and two infants in oxygen tents were taken to Presbyterian Hospital as a precaution. All were returned after the fire was contained. French Troops Suffer Heavy Losses in Hanoi Battle
A Radio Hanoi communique broadcast by Radio Hanoi reported 240 French troops killed and 30 wounded in a 10 hour Hanoi battle on Friday. The 20 tanks and supporting units attacked Ngoc Ha NW Hanoi at 5:30 a.m. The report said 200 French soldiers were killed in that clash and 40 more were killed by guerrillas near Duy Tan Street and Cau Den quarter.

SCRANTON, Pa Jan. (BP) Charles Sumner Woolworth, founder of the Woolworth chain, died at his home at age 90 after years of ill health. Born August 1, 1956 in Rodman New York, he opened his first store 65 years ago and helped form the F. W. Woolworth Company with brothers Frans Woolworth and Fred M. Kirby.
