The ship Trade Wind departs the water for Bermuda as authorities announce Paris-bound plans. A bold report notes a dramatic monoplane takeoff en route to a first goal amid celebratory shouts from a conspicuous observer Madame Redhead.
U S Gulf Trade reported sighting the monoplane Trade Wind about 180 miles west of Bermuda during the New York to Paris route. Lieut William M McLaren and Mrs Beryl Hart, crew, spoke with Hampton Roads officials as the aircraft prepared for the Bermuda leg in calm Atlantic conditions.
Pittsburgh Jan 7 Northwestern Pennsylvania road conditions are described as the worst in two years in a police telegraph warning. Ten counties report ice covered highways making travel hazardous as every available highway dept truck works to spread cinders for safe traffic.
Anton Surinos, 45, a coal miner at Foster mines near Saltsburg, was found dead by workmen at 6:30 am. County Coroner Fred W. St. Clair said Surinos died by his own action, igniting dynamite under his abdomen after inserting a cap and fuse. The blast shredded his body. remains found near the company sand house. He is believed to have died around 4:00 am. residents heard the explosion. Surinos had no known family or companions in Foster Mines.
At 11 o clock this morning the Indiana Hospital reported 112 patients admitted for medical care surgery or recuperation the largest patient census ever recorded at the facility staff and nurses maintained orderly operations with no waste steps observed

The first union service for Indiana and vicinity will be held tonight at 7:80 in Zion Lutheran Church at corner Church and Sixth streets. Dr J A Alexander will speak on The Life of Enriching Intercession. A cordial invitation is extended to all Indiana residents to attend this spiritual event.
Varna Black of West Lebanon was admitted to Indiana Hospital in serious condition after clothing on her body caught fire from an open stove. Her face escaped the flames while mias Black, about nineteen, suffered severe burns to the body from the same incident.
In Ebensburg Cambria County court yesterday ownership of a car did not prove a man was a wife deserter as Mrs. Calvin Yingling misidentified Benjamin F. Clark of Upper Darby Philadelphia. The mother failed to recognize the man she hoped was her son in law.
Philadelphia January 7 reports say millionaire draft dodger Philip Bergdoll may have returned from Germany overnight arriving in New York aboard the Majestic and making his way to Philadelphia but authorities and Mrs Emma Bergdoll could not confirm the claim. Police and federal officials began checks with no results by 10 A.M.

Baltimore January 7 Patrolman John Burne died from bullet wounds sustained yesterday when a suspect at his home during a quiet disturbance disarmed Burne and pistol in hand shot him. Sergeant Alfred Plitt is recovering from a head wound as Edward McIntyre, a gas company inspector, killed the assailant.
Justice T. W. McClain known as the marrying squire of Mercer County died at 76 after a brief illness. He served nearly 36 years as a justice and for a decade performed more marriages than any other person in the county.

A fire company committee sought repairs to their rooms including plaster, repainting, and replacement. The property committee will review the request at the next meeting. John Sutton of Indiana Foundry urged improved water main protection in the Fourth Ward north of Philadelphia Street from Ninth Street west.
Beaver Falls January 7. Arrangements are complete for the corner stone laying of Geneva College’s new library valued at 125000 dollars. The building is under construction and Dr Clarence E McCartney of Pittsburgh First Presbyterian Church will give a brief address. The college board trustees students and faculty will attend.
Hartwell FP Ayers American newspaper correspondent died in Gar gas hospital from bullet wounds suffered during street fighting in the recent Panama Revolution. Wounded in throat and abdomen he fought bravely but succumbed. He was a native of Anniston Alabama.
Members of the Indiana Rifle Club plan a shooting night at the Armory range instead of boasting about accuracy. A large turnout is expected for the meeting with a Saturday afternoon contest at Rustic Lodge at 1:00 oclock. Prizes will be awarded for the event under former rules.
A. Reed of West Lebanon celebrated the 83rd birthday last Sabbath. He visited at his daughter Mrs. H. R. George on Church Street the day prior. Reed enjoys robust health, reads and writes without glasses, does his own work, and remains active in life. he is a cousin of B. A. Cunningham of Wayne Avenue.
The Stanchard Oil Company of Pennsylvania has bought the McLain homestead at Fifth and Philadelphia streets for 23 000. A modern gas and service station will replace the building on an eighty foot lot facing South Fifth Street. Plans show a white brick, red trimmed structure to be built, adding a new but controversial landmark to Main Street.
The Indiana County Post No. 1947 Veterans of Foreign Wars met at Memorial Hall. New members took the obligation as the group endorsed payment in full for Adjusted Compensation Certificates. Plans target forming a working organization in every township to aid ex soldiers and families and press for rightful compensation. Next meeting January 27 at Memorial Hall. initiation for new members. A Bridge Party and related events with door prize and lunch were announced for January 7 at Catholic Church Hall.

CHICAGO Jan 7 In a Shell Union and Standard Oil deal Universal Oil Products stock formerly tied to Armour estate was sold for 86 million dollars. Mrs Armour, once wealthiest with a fortune around 140 million, had retained control of the oil outfit through loss and debt. The sale assigned 3.22 million to Hiram J Malle of New York and to Natoma Corporation each, while the total value of Mrs Armour’s stake dwindled to about ten thousand dollars.
