Harrisburg Farm Show Opens With Live Stock Move In

Farm animals and birds were moved into the state farm exhibition building in Harrisburg to prepare for the 40th annual Pennsylvania Farm Show. About 2,000 head of livestock arrived, with tractors and farm equipment, under the supervision of Farm Show Director John McCool, in his first show. The Farm Show Commission announced 26 organizations to receive FFA citations at the midwinter meeting, including two newspapers and three radio stations. The first animal arrived was a holstein bull calf owned by Luke Pasco of Washington, Pa. The five day event is expected to draw more than six million dollars in livestock, poultry and exhibits, with opening at 8 am Monday.

Frozen Simeon Wassela family found in Alaska

In Alaska near Lake Hiamna 250 miles southwest of Anchorage the five bodies of the Simeon Wassela family were found on the snow by a Civil Air Patrol plane. Two of nine sled dogs survived. The victims ranged from under one year to 14. The family departed Newhalen December 27 for a trip to Iguigig and perished from exposure.

Indiana Hospital Plans Addition and Renovation Project

Indiana Hospital’s board approves a three year program to build a modern wing and renovate existing facilities. Groundbreaking is tentatively set for July with a public funds drive planned in spring. Funds include 140000 from Hill Burton and 78700 from the Ford Foundation to support new construction.

Publishing Cost Boosting Price Of Newspapers in Pennsylvania

Harrisburg The Pennsylvania Newspaper Publishers Association reports rising publishing costs push state publishers to raise prices. The PNPA 1056 directory shows 49 papers across daily weekly and Sunday editions have raised rates. total listed is 431 papers with 129 dailies 288 weeklies and 14 Sundays. The leading price remains five cents except for Sundays.

State police identified 61 year old Charles Vincekevich of Portage R D as the victim in a pedestrian collision in Portage Two yesterday. Driver Joseph W. Nolan 40 of Martinsdale told authorities Vincekevich stumbled into the vehicle path.
