George Duffield age 22 son of Mr and Mrs L Duffield of Alem township Westmoreland county was found dead in a workshop on the Duffield farm by his father Saturday afternoon. He had shot himself through the heart with a .38 revolver after a quarrel with a girl at a dance Friday night. He helped with farm work Saturday morning then went to the workshop where he was tinkering with an automobile. Body found after he did not answer dinner bell. Survived by parents two brothers and three sisters. The coroner Dr James T Harkins said death was self inflicted.
County Auditor and Mrs. William Bowman returned home from Lancaster where they spent the holidays with the latter’s parents. Several families visited relatives in Pittsburgh and nearby towns, with notes of travel, work changes, and a birth. James Doyle and wife celebrate a nine pound baby girl born January 2. Fred Clark and family plan travel. Fred Jr. remains in Philadelphia for school.
State highway officials cite an $80,000 excess over the advance estimate for the project. Raymond Lithgow an 80 year old World War II veteran drowned in the Ohio River after his car backed onto a river dock in Pittsburgh. Police say he asked directions, turned wrong and the vehicle slid into the water. Efforts to revive him failed. widow says he suffered shell shock in the past.
