Senate Leaders Fight Records Access in Spending Probe

Harrisburg AP Senate Democrat says leaders resist federal access to expense records for a spending abuse probe. He backs opening pre April 1 1977 records only with a subpoena. Contributors Board Announces Tax Exemptions at Homer Center

Homer Center Recreation and Parks Board announced its tax exemption status after receiving an IRS number. Newly appointed Leonard Evansic will represent Homer Center School District. Sando Bruno could not attend. The board plans to contact Hawk Coal Co for a letter confirming cooperation to convert Graceton Park for recreation after coal stripping, slated to begin by April 1 and finish within 18 months. Plans include securing more land for Lucerne Park, pursuing grants and local funds, with over $22,000 already raised. A Feb 1 meeting was scheduled in the Homer-Center High School library.

Magistrates Charge Sheet Filed In District Court

A list of defendants facing charges was filed with District Magistrates including Richard Orendorff and Geraldine Wilkins. Two Deaths From Tavern Shooting in Pennsylvania

A Fayette County man William Dobish 34 died in Doe's Tavern Pooldale German Township after a tavern shooting. Arnold Malespino 31 was charged with criminal homicide. A second death Gerald McKinon 32 of New Salem occurred when his car hit a state police cruiser racing to the scene.

Homer Council Tables Items At Special Meeting

Homer City Borough Council met with Central Indiana County Water Authority to discuss a water rate contract and sprinkler fire protection payment agreement. Both items were tabled for further negotiations. The meeting also reviewed the 1978 budget and formed committees. A $35 contribution to Indiana County Tourist Bureau was tabled. Council will meet January 12 at 7:30 pm.

Ruptured Tank Cloud Over Eastern Area Triggers Alerts

A ruptured tank at a Baltimore factory released sulfur trioxide gas drifting into southeastern Pennsylvania. Residents were urged to stay indoors while Civil Defense tracked the bluish white cloud near York County and into Lancaster County. Hospitals reported no cases, but calls flood in from worried residents. Officials cautioned the danger was mainly to those with respiratory ailments if exposure continued.
