Plant Reduces Salaries At General Fireproofing Plant

YOUNGSTOWN Ohio AP General Fireproofing Co says it is cutting salaries of white collar personnel about 10 percent and laying off some workers while shortening the work week to four days in some departments. Company president John A Saunders declined to state how many workers are affected, saying the cuts are to keep the company strong as a job source. The reductions reflect a sharp sales decline from customer plans for expansion and modernization. General Fireproofing, maker of office furniture, employs nearly 3 000 workers in its plant here.
