Albert Edmelaré Herpin of Trenton died at Mercer Hospital at 95. Known as the sleepless wonder he claimed never to sleep, he lived in a shack near a railroad siding, read in a rocking chair, and kept a pipe and tea as essentials. He refused media appears and worked as a gardener, sometimes taking two jobs to prove he could toil 24 hours. Hospital staff noted he never slept during five visits. His tale of a 1906 doctors vigil ended when the doctors reportedly began sleeping.
