Lawrance Martin, 64, the clerk, was shot as he reached for a gun. Trucker's Bed Capsizes After Collision at Nicktown Crossing
A head on crash between a Pennsylvania Railroad track motor truck and an automobile truck near Nicktown at 7 16 yesterday morning injured 12 people. Oliver Crossman 88 from near Ashville suffered a spine fracture and is in serious condition at Miners Hospital Spangler. Leo Plunkett 36 from near Patton is listed in good condition with bruises and lacerations. The westbound truck carrying 10 CWA workers was hurled 50 feet, eight men in the bed were thrown clear. Investigating officers of Ebensburg State Police and Carrolltown officials reported the road and track conditions prevented resisting braking. Other injured were treated at Vincent Eckenrode homes near the scene.

Record verdict reduced in Jefferson County case
In Punxsutawney on June 4 Judge Harry Rimer ordered a remittance of 25 000 from the record 85 000 verdict in the case of J DiPietro guardian of Alexander Marando against The Great A and P Company. If accepted the remaining 60 000 still marks one of Pennsylvania’s highest personal injury verdicts and the largest in Jefferson County. Marando, paralyzed on his left side and mentally impaired, was injured in a collision between a car driven by E H Coburn and a coupe owned by A and P Company driven by Samuel Welaman near Gowdersport on June 30 1931. Coburn, who also sustained injuries, settled for 8100. The A and P Company had sought a new trial citing excessive verdict. appeal likely after remittance.
