Minister Responds Call May Have Saved Life
CHICAGO AP On the first day of the new year Terry swallowed a lethal dose of drugs and phoned a Lutheran minister 250 miles away. The minister, Rev Gerald Kort of Sparta Wisconsin, spoke with him for over an hour before he lapsed into unconsciousness. Police traced the call to Chicago. Kort said Terry expressed a religious question and asked if God would forgive him. Three hours later, police and medics broke down a North Side apartment door and found Terry Peckett 24 alive but in critical condition. He was rushed to Swedish Covenant Hospital and remained unresponsive but stable. Might live. Maybe find meaning. If so, things could be OK.
